Celebrity Cruises prices move after you book. What makes Celebrity different from almost every other mainstream premium cruise line is what happens when you catch the movement.
What sets Celebrity's Best Price Guarantee apart is the refund. When Celebrity reprices a booking to a lower fare before final payment and you've already paid in full, it issues a refund to your original payment method — cash back, not onboard credit, not a future cruise credit. That's rare in the premium tier, and it's what makes catching a Celebrity fare drop before final payment genuinely worth the effort.
One thing to know up front, because older guides still describe it: Celebrity used to run a separate, standing "Added Value Offer" protection that let you claim newly added promotions onto an existing booking, plus a 48-hour post-booking window that paid 100% of a fare difference as onboard credit. Those mechanics have been phased out. Under Celebrity's current Best Price Guarantee terms, a promotion travels with the repriced fare rather than being separately claimable, and the post-booking request window is now 24 hours. The verified current terms are what this guide is built on — we spell them out below.
What Actually Matters
The Best Price Guarantee lets you request a reprice to a current better fare on Celebrity's own channels (website or call center) for the same ship, sail date, and stateroom category. The repriced fare is inclusive of whatever promotion currently applies to it.
Before final payment: Celebrity applies the lower fare. If you've already paid in full, you receive a refund to your original payment method. A complimentary stateroom upgrade may be offered instead where one is available.
After final payment, if you booked within the last 24 hours: same eligibility — a price adjustment/refund or an upgrade.
After final payment, booked more than 24 hours ago: you may be eligible for a complimentary stateroom upgrade only, subject to availability, and only where the higher category is priced at or below what you paid.
Your deposit type matters: with a refundable-deposit booking you can reprice to either fare type; with a non-refundable-deposit booking you can only reprice to the same fare type.
Promotions now move with the fare. A better promotion isn't a separately claimable item the way older guides describe — it comes as part of the repriced fare, and certain promotions are excluded from the guarantee entirely.
Always Included (AI) fares bundle the Classic beverage package and basic Wi-Fi into the fare. Note: as of October 2023, standard AI fares no longer include daily crew gratuities — those are billed separately (Retreat and AquaClass bookings are the exception). A lower non-AI fare is still rarely cheaper in total once you price the beverage and Wi-Fi back in — the comparison requires calculating both sides.
Edge-class ships (Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent) price more firmly and produce fewer qualifying fare drops than the traditional fleet.

How the Repriced Fare Works — Including the Promotion
Celebrity's guarantee reprices your booking to the current better fare "inclusive of any applicable promotion." That phrase is the whole mechanic: when you reprice, you take the new fare and whatever promotion is currently attached to it — you don't keep your old promotion and bolt the new fare underneath it.
That's a real change from how Celebrity's guarantee used to work, and it's why the comparison matters more than it seems. A lower headline fare can carry a different promotional package than your booking has now — sometimes better, sometimes worse. If the fare you're eyeing comes with weaker onboard credit or drops an inclusion you currently have, the reprice can cost you more than the fare saving returns. Before you request anything, compare the whole package on both sides, not just the fare number. We walk through exactly how in how promotions now work with the repriced fare.

The Cash Refund Distinction
When a lower fare appears before final payment on a Celebrity sailing that's already been paid in full, Celebrity issues a refund to the original payment method. Not OBC tied to onboard spend. Not a future cruise credit requiring another booking. A refund.
This is meaningfully different from Holland America's 120% OBC outcome, Princess's non-refundable OBC outcome, and Virgin Voyages' Future Voyage Credit outcome — all of which tie the benefit to future spending or future bookings. A cash refund on a fully paid Celebrity booking has full, unconditional value regardless of how you cruise.
The practical implication: on Celebrity bookings that are fully paid, catching a qualifying fare drop before final payment is a higher-value outcome than on most other lines. There's no "is this OBC actually usable" calculation. The money comes back.
The Always Included Fare: Why Non-AI Comparisons Fail
Celebrity's AI fare is the standard offering on most sailings, and getting this comparison right is its own topic — see running the right Always Included comparison. It bundles two inclusions into the published price — and, since October 2023, no longer the daily crew gratuity:
Classic Beverage Package: unlimited beverages including wine by the glass, beer, spirits at Classic tier, specialty coffees, non-alcoholic beverages. At Celebrity's onboard pricing, this runs $70–$100 per person per day for a moderate drinker, or approximately $490–$700 per person on a 7-night sailing.
Basic Wi-Fi: streaming-capable, one device per person. At stand-alone pricing: approximately $70–$100 per person for a 7-night sailing.
Daily crew gratuities — no longer bundled (since October 2023): on standard AI fares, the daily crew gratuity (roughly $18–$23 per person per day) is billed separately, not included. It's included only on Retreat and AquaClass bookings. Don't count it as an AI inclusion on a standard fare.
Combined AI value per person on a 7-night sailing (beverage + Wi-Fi): approximately $560–$800. For two guests: approximately $1,120–$1,600 per stateroom.
A non-AI fare that's $150 per person cheaper than an AI fare is not $150 cheaper in total. It requires adding the beverage package and Wi-Fi separately — which typically costs more than the headline fare gap. We see this produce incorrect claim decisions regularly on Celebrity: a passenger submits a claim on a lower non-AI fare, reprices, and later discovers their beverage package and Wi-Fi are no longer included. The guarantee calculates on the fare only. The inclusions math is the passenger's responsibility.
Before submitting any BPG claim on Celebrity, confirm whether the lower fare carries the same AI inclusions as your current booking. If it doesn't, run the full comparison including the add-on costs before deciding whether to submit.
The Repricing Trap: A Worse Package for a Lower Number
The most consequential risk in Celebrity price monitoring is repricing to a lower headline fare that carries a weaker promotion than your booking currently holds. Because the repriced fare comes inclusive of its own promotion — and replaces what you had — a lower number on the page doesn't guarantee a better booking.
It plays out most often like this:
The lower fare drops onboard credit you currently have. Your booking carries $300 OBC. The sale fare is $200 lower but carries $150 OBC. Reprice and you gain $200 on fare but lose $150 in credit — a net $50, not $200. Sometimes still worth it, but nothing like the headline.
The lower fare drops an inclusion. Your booking includes a beverage package; the lower fare doesn't. The package can be worth ~$490 per person on a 7-night sailing — easily more than the fare saving. Repricing would cost you money.
The prevention is one question before you approve anything: ask Celebrity exactly what promotion and inclusions your booking will carry after the reprice, and whether anything you have now goes away. It takes a couple of minutes and prevents the single most expensive mistake on Celebrity. The full claim walkthrough covers exactly how to run that check.
What We've Seen In Practice
The most consistent mistake on Celebrity is passive waiting. Celebrity reprices constantly — most heavily around the main sale events — and a fare that's meaningfully lower today can recover within days. The passengers who capture drops are the ones watching their exact sailing and calling the moment a qualifying lower fare appears — before final payment, while the refund path is still open.
The second most common mistake is repricing without checking what promotion comes with the new fare. Because the repriced fare includes its own promotion, a passenger can chase a lower number and land on a package that's worse overall — less onboard credit, or an inclusion dropped. Comparing the full package on both sides before calling prevents it.

On Edge-class sailings, we see meaningful fare drops in our monitoring data primarily on longer itineraries — 10+ nights in the Mediterranean or South America — where demand occasionally softens against the higher entry pricing. On 7-night Caribbean sailings on Edge-class ships, qualifying fare drops are less frequent, so the promotion attached to any current fare is worth as much attention as the fare itself when you compare.
Celebrity's Always Included comparison error appears most frequently on sailings where Celebrity runs a "non-AI" sale fare at a dramatically lower headline price. The headline fare looks compelling. The total value calculation typically doesn't hold up once the beverage package and Wi-Fi are added back in — and if the fare is non-AI, the daily crew gratuity is on you either way.
Common Questions
Does Celebrity automatically adjust my fare if it drops?
No. The BPG requires you to contact Celebrity at 1-888-751-7804 or through your travel agent and request the adjustment. Monitoring is the passenger's responsibility.
I've already paid in full and my fare dropped before final payment. What do I receive?
A refund to your original payment method — not onboard credit. That cash-back outcome on a fully paid booking is one of Celebrity's genuinely passenger-friendly features and sets it apart from most lines in the premium tier.
Can I claim a new promotion onto my existing booking, like older guides describe?
Not as a separate claim anymore. Celebrity has phased out the standalone "Added Value Offer" protection. Under current terms, a promotion comes as part of the repriced fare — so if you want a better promotion, you reprice to the fare that carries it, and you take that fare's terms as a package. Compare the whole package on both sides before you do.
Could repricing leave me worse off?
It can, if the fare you switch to carries a weaker promotion than your current booking. The repriced fare includes its own promotion and replaces what you had — there's no keeping your old promotion and adding the new fare underneath it. Certain promotions are also excluded from the guarantee. Run the full comparison, and ask Celebrity to confirm exactly what your booking will carry after the reprice before you approve it.
How do I know if a lower fare I found is an AI fare or non-AI fare?
On celebritycruises.com, AI fares are typically labeled as "Always Included" or display the bundled inclusions during the booking flow. A lower fare without these labels or inclusions listed is likely non-AI. Confirm before filing a claim.
